TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
The authors of this longitudinal study evaluated 421 mother–daughter pairs. Compared with daughters born to mothers who had blood glucose levels in the lowest quintile, daughters born to mothers who had gestational diabetes mellitus had increased odds of having a BMI ≥85th percentile or of being in the highest quartile for weight–height ratio or percent body fat (OR, 2.80–3.56)。 The highest rates of adiposity in daughters were seen for mothers who had gestational diabetes and high pregravid BMI.
Screening and intervention for gestational diabetes are warranted to decrease the risk for adiposity in female offspring.
